Thanks smellie, it answers a question or two particularly the M 194. I could not imagine what that was. There is a roundel on the right side of the butt with CEF over a 16. Under that is B2961. The work CANADA has been defaced which makes me think the Chileans were not happy to have lost the first 3 years of their new battleships life. The Chileanicon serial is D. A. 188 which is also marked on the bolt. I have not been able to get a group like yours but considering th dark bore (fair to midding rifling) but a few shots with 800 grit followed by a few 1200 grit should at least brighten the bore. You indicated yours has the "E" on the barrel as does mine but do you see on the expended brass a scond "bottleneck" and is this a characteristic with the expanded rifles?

Please overlook the first line on my note. My cat wandered over the key board and did add some extraneous letters.

I'd very much like to think that my D.A. marked Ross went through the Battle of Jutland aboard H.M.S. Canadaicon. However, the Battle of Jutland took place on the 31st May, 1916 and rather doubt that the Ross Rifles had been re-issued to the Navy by then. Does anybody have any information on when exactly the Ross Rifles went to sea? My guess would be sometime during 1917.
