We never had that problem In the Canadianicon army, we were metric but always flipped back and forth between inch and metric. It wasn't until the end of the 80s that we dozed the ranges flat and made them metric. Until then, we just changed the name from the 100yd to 100 meter point.

Noooooooooo, we're not THAT civilised yet Enblock! The 4x2 is still issued in 4" wide 50 yard long rolls with a red line every 2". So you get a foot length and tear off a bit, about 4" long, fold it in half so that it's now 2" long, and thread that into the pullthrough, thinking illogically that it's now 4" x 2" and will fit snugly down the bore. It wont!

Only we're not allowed to call it 4x2 now........ or even a foot length it's something else. But to us older types, we just call it 4 x2 CENTI inches and get on with it!

CORPORAL!! IT IS NOT FOURBEE. YOU WILL REFER TO IT AS SERVICE FLANNELETTE!!

Just another blast I got from an RSM that was a stikler for the book. You should have seen the fit he threw when I referred to the breech block carrier return rod as the rat's tail.
