My friend who worked for Inland who gave me the brick said that Inland had several hundred X series M1
Carbines in their vault and gave them away to employees who retired as late as the early 1970's.

I don't have the experience of Paul, but there is a Inland XC series on GB right now. It is XC-42. It has no cartouche.

Not 100% sure, but I think that is one of the color coded plugs inland used in the manufacturing process to denote what step of the process the carbine was in. I have seen pics of these before and that is what comes to mind. I may be wrong on all of that, but I am sure the other thing listed is the sling!!!
