The Ebay stock has a crack in the bridge.
    Usually easy enough to fix.
Gotta try to catch a few ZZZ's. Been working nights.

    Later,

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. To me, it looks more like a Canadianicon broad arrow acceptance stamp. it isn't clear enough to tell for syre.

    mpd1978,

A Quality H.M.C. carbine I just purchased has the original RSG stock that could be a twin to yours. It's serial number is 4,849,4xx. The cartouche appears to be in the exact same spot, as does the RSG in slingwell. Also, that extra mark yours has to the left of the RSG is identical to mine...even to the point that you can't quite make out what it is.

Carbine club newsletter #334 mentions the majority of the latest Quality Hardwares that came with factory low wood stocks(and there weren't large numbers of low woods), were marked Q-RMC. These were supplemented by a limited number of stocks marked HQ and RSG.

I'm thinking that extra mark ours has is a lightly struck sideways Q, bottom half missing? Just a guess. The newsletter doesn't even mention it. Congrats on your nice QHMC!

MPD your right about your stock being an RSG stock but I don't think it's a Q. To me that looks like the flaming bomb acceptance stamp in front of the RSG.

This first picture is the slingwell of a Un-Quality, 4,4**,***
You'll see it has the larger stamped RSG letters with the Circle, Bomb, O or Q marking. ??

Second picture has the HQ marking (upside down) in the slingwell of a 4,8**,***X Un-Quality Type III lo-wood stock.

A Thank You to the owner for letting me post these.

    HTH,
    Charlie-painter777

P.S. Best if you increase the size of the 2nd picture to best view the HQ letters.
Bottom right corner..change ZOOM level to approx 200%
On my PC the ZOOM feature is just above the time.
