I remember that the big old 6 wheel Austin Gantry lorries had engines so quiet that you couldn't hear that they were running. The Trucks were buried so far as I was told, although I wasn't at Maralinga but loads of poms were and I used to meet up with them because they had more access to the the RAF/RAAF flights back to Englandicon. So one of them bought my bike back with him that my mum delivered to Lyneham together with some warm clothing because the Australianicon winter was closing in. SO that'll be the pom Summer/Aust winter of 68 I should think.

I had a perk trip home on a RNZAF Herc that was bringing a new lifeboat to replace one lost by a rescue ship on the Wahine rescue

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I will accept PayPal, Zelle, MO and good old checks (and cash if you want to stop by for a tour!). CLICK BANNER to send me a PM for International pricing and shipping. Manufacturer of various vintage rifle scopes for the 1903 such as our M73G4 (reproduction of the Weaver 330C) and Malcolm 8X Gen II (Unertl reproduction). Several of our scopes are used in the CMP Vintage Sniper competition on top of 1903 rifles. Brian Dick ... Drove 650 km today looking for a barrel. It's the last time I'm doing that. Each place said they had them, but when I got there. Nothing!!! So if anyone knows of any leads.

Have you tried Kingaroy Firearms Co or Brian Labudda who has a Secondhand shop[I think] also in Kingaroy.

Any luck so far? I have a tired two-groove tube which might suit. Just came to me the other day. It has a groove around the bore about half an inch back from the muzzle. Any good for what you want?

    Cheers,
    Matt
