Original vs Reproduction Butt Plate

In most cases,
If your stock has the Crossed Cannons cartouche, that proves it was accepted on a issued carbine.
That's the Ordnance Final Acceptance Stamp, meaning that complete carbine has been accepted.
Each prime maker used a different style/size stamp, some makers stamps varied from early to later by changing the stamps size and design.
Replacement stocks were supplied and shipped, but never stamped with the Ordnance Acceptance (CC) stamps. Replaced stocks usually had a Armory or Depot stamp on them or none at all.... as a rule of thumb. Most of the stocks made as extras or replacements were marked differently. Many suppliers only made extra/replacement stocks.

Hoping this makes sense, Lots of distractions here at the moment..

So it is possible that the stock merely dried up over the years and has shrunk? I'm familiar with antique furniture and I don't see where this stock has been sanded or refinished. Could it be an NOS stock pulled from a crate like you said? thanks

Yes,
The stock could have shrunk up.
I've soaked stocks in a tank with warmed Boiled linseed oil and have improved the trigger housing fit by doing so.

Hey Charlie there were some replacement stinks that did get a small crossed cannon on them. They were either J or PJ marked and the CC was very similar to the late underwood CC. I don't gave a pic, but I think BQ does. If I recall correctly they were sometimes on the right and sometimes in the slingwell.

Thanks Dave,
I recall, and have a few pictures of the Jewell stocks like that.
But I don't remember them being as large as a UEF CC. I'll have to try to locate those later. PC crashed a while back. Learning new system.
I was just trying to keep the answer as brief as possible.
Un like BQ, It takes me 2 or 3 pages to get a few simple points across !

Charlie,
I am using my iPhone instead of my mac because I tried to clean it up and free up space. So I screwed it all up and am stuck using my 4" screen on my phone so I end up with a bunch of jumbled words and stuff because it thinks I mean another word and puts something else in its place. I don't have any of the stocks myself and saved a pic but I erased it all.
I just recalled the thread about them.

So that's what the replacement "stinks" was all about!
I chuckled when I read it and thought you mistyped, or some subliminal Freudian slip had crept in.
(Just kidding!)

My last cell phone had that 'auto complete' feature that wanted to finish words on it's own when I typed text and it made me nuts!
I tried every way I could think of to find a way to turn the feature off but never did find a way to do it.
I left my cell phone in my jeans pocket and ran it through the washing machine - took care of the problem!

I beleive this is a replacement stock made by Jamestown Lounge as there is no markings on the right side. I'm not sure how the cc is supposed to be measured, the outer circle is 5/16".

I think I have the replacement stocks marked with a CC or Bomb in a file with the IR replacement stocks. A file I can't seem to find right now.
My first attempt at a Sub Album and I've forgot what I named it............
Here's a Jewels without the CC, by memory a long channel with the extra support cut for the recoil plate.
The J looks very much like yours.
