Agreed. The USMC SOST round and Mk262, in a 20" standard M16A4 with an ACOG have equaled or surpassed what most shooters can do with an M14icon, even scoped out to 600m or so. And they don't stand out as targets. There's still a role for 7.62, especially in machine guns, but do NOT discount what the 5.56 can do.

If we were not hampered ballistically due to the Hague Accords there'd be even more people in hell. The 262 and SOST are (belated) attempts by the government to finally realize we can do more than just poke a hole in a guy. I only ever carried M855/856, but friends currently deployed using both of the above have reported few complaints.
