You're dead right Brian..............., It might work - after a fashion - but it's broke! This sight is a good example of the vagaries of parts lists. The Mk3 and 4 sights were not available as components, only assemblies. As I always remind you forumers. The parts list is a list of PARTS and not a list of AVAILABLE parts. I suppose you could cannibalise parts from one to another but as I seem to recall, the retaining pin at the top was always a bit of a pig to remove because it was stepped. And in any case, it was always the engagement part of the lever that broke....., as in this case.

Like you Brian, I've had to replace these sights and even cannibalise on occasions too, especially on the fabricated UKicon type where the battle sight has snapped off

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I will accept PayPal, Zelle, MO and good old checks (and cash if you want to stop by for a tour!). CLICK BANNER to send me a PM for International pricing and shipping. Peter, I was lucky to get a couple of sectionalized trays of parts from Wortner's gun shop in my old home town of Chatham, Ontario that came directly from the Long Branch auction in the 1970's. There were a variety of No.4 and C1/C1A1 parts including sight parts but unfortunately none of the catches for the fabricated rear sights. There were even some Canadianicon made SMLE spares like the little metal caps for the front handguards and screws to attach them. All handy items to have but long gone now. There was a new and unfitted No.32 telescope bracket too which now resides on my 1943 50Lxxxx Canadian No.4T with the Mk.1A scope that was the first one I ever sent you for repair! Damn, that's getting to be a long time ago, eh? Brian

Peter the sight adjustment lever appears to be bent where the little claw for lack of a better word contact the detentes in the sight ladder. It's still working although the lever sticks out further than normal when the ladder is raised,if it eventually fails I will have to see what I can to to fix it if it's possible. Is the C MK3 long range sight the standard sight used on this rifle or is there a replacement that will work just as well. Thanks for all the input.

It's really one of about 6 or so sights that were fitted from start to finish but they all fit. If you want it original, then maybe someone could weld another small tip to the original catch

Well Peter, all you have to do is say NO. I know you LOVE to HATE the damned things though. It's all charity work as far as I'm concerned. There's someone in Texas and Canadaicon who say they can fix 'em! I'm glad all of mine are done though.

Back on topic: SKS50, RE: the C Mk.3 sights, I have two left in new condition if you want to replace yours. They are not easy to find anymore. Email me in the shop directly if so. bdlltd@bellsouth.net. It'll probably be cheaper than trying to weld it up unless you've got a friend with a TIG welder.
