OK, I did as instructed, and checked under the rear sight. It's a Winchester. Sorry for the mistake of thinking that it was an Inland. Again, I have no idea what made me think that.

I have a 5.6 Win, the type 2 band and sight may be original to the weapon. The front sight is almost surely Winchester.

If it's as good and as original as it looks, it might be one of the good 'white bag' carbines sold by the CMP
some years ago. We'd have to see a lot more detail to tell anything for sure. Winchester on any gun is always a plus, and they developed the original carbine for the Ordnance Dep't. Late Inlands and late Winchesters are very similar in configuration and serial number range, so it's fairly easy for a novice to make that mistake, especially with the name hidden under the sight overhang.

IrishPunk: Be happy it's a Winchester $$$$$$$$$$$$$$
I did the same thing with my Winchester, didn't have a clue what it was until I really looked.
My Great great great great great grandfather Sir Thomas Hackett was Lord Mayor of Dublin 1687.......
