Looks like the front pad has some mileage too, screws been staked 6 times.

Peter,
Brian mentioned the notched in patch and re-numbering , I have seen this done on L42A1's is it correct? and would it be done on a No 4?
A assume it was done on L42'a because of a lack of replacement parts and therefor it would not be done on No 4's due to availability.

Marty, I've only ever seen that type patch on a couple of L42's. I think a generational change caused some discrepancies from the norm that late in the game. Peter can weigh in. We've discussed it before in years past. I've seen the rifle numbers stamped on the top of the wrist instead of the scope number too. Go figure.
Andy, The sanding marks on the top of the wrist of your "T" are normal. There's nothing wrong with your rifle. Funny, it does have a Bren front sight installed.
Tom, Yep, that L42's been round the block a few times. It's still tight as a tick and shoots like a house on fire. It was in my one big import of those rifles back in 2000. I got all the ones no one else wanted. Thirty in all. With Peter's long distance Armourer's course, I put the rifles all back into shape and he serviced/rebuilt all of the scopes. When they left here, they were all test fired and range ready. The good old days for sure. It came back from the original owner in TX on consignment and just left this morning for service with it's new owner in California. He's gonna shoot it too because he's a shooter not to mention long time friend and customer of mine. These old rifles are like the energizer bunny. They just keep going and going. Like Peter says: " They'll last another 60 years with a bit of care".

Andy, One other comment on your "T". The crusty looking black finish on the receiver is called Brunofix and no one's ever been able to replicate it. I learned that from our good friend Dr. Payne

There was never a shortage of No4 butts. But the old time Armourer Sergeants and inspectors would tell you to patch the butt out. We simply wouldn't replace a butt because it had a few numbers punched in....................... Come off it lads, this is British
trained Armourers were talking about here! We're not quick change parts swoppers.................
I can only see one screw stake mark on each front pad screw.
The reason why the L42's look more battle scarred than the No4T's is that we only had 1080 L42 rifles in the system against 26,000 No4T's so by definition, the L42's got a bit more of a bashing on a pro-rata basis
Just accept that youir rifle is a genuine T (no more photos please.................. it clogs up my little computer for ages!) and so is the telescope/bracket. JUst get someone to
a) properly match the bracket to the rifle body while keeping the optical axis of the telescope collimated with the bore of the rifle. Brian can do this as I've spent hours and hours teaching him!
b) get rid of the .031" Bren foresight blade and replace it with a .030" rifle blade
c) mark it properly
Then you'll have as good and genuine a No4T as mine is. There is NOTHING on mine that is original or factory fresh except the body and bracket. Even the telescope has been 'got at' as it's now a Mk2/1W

The ORIGINAL number looks to me to be 28576 or 28577 or 28579 I have all recorded as having been through my hands. The first two in the US and the last on an L42(?)

Looking again, are you sure that the ROFB isn't ROF6? ROF 6 was ROF Fazakerley. But alas, the blade is still a Bren size
