Advice for a college student looking to buy a No4. Mk1?

If you want a No4 then I think you should seriously consider buying it from Brian. The most important thing is being able to trust the person you are dealing with.

No4's are still common to a point but sure don't see as many for sale as a few years ago.

Enjoy it and trust me it won't be your last as Lee Enfields are addictive.

I live in Australia and I buy from Brian even though it will sometimes cost me extra. I can pick the same up here but with Brian I know I will quality and just what I am looking for.

The fine young man who started this thread is getting a long stock, (he's a tall bugger!), 2 groove barrel, 1942 LB as FTR'd by CAL in the 1950's before being shipped to the Greeks for reserve duty. I test fired it yesterday and it's nothing short of perfect IMHO. It took three, three shot groups to put it a hair left of the X in a group just a bit under 1" on a bullseye at 50 yards. I was using FNM 1971 Mk.7z. I made elevation adjustments only with the C Mk.3 rear sight. I then proceeded to whack the crap out of my 2' Salute popper at 125 yards ten more times, the poor little guy. I knew there was a reason why I have an ongoing love affair with the good 'ole No.4! I know one thing; If he doesn't like this rifle, I'll gladly have it back! I'm down to less than a dozen of the Greek LB No.4's. Every one I've range tested has been just the same. They certainly haven't been abused other than handling marks on the woodwork. It'll be the end of an era when I run out of them.

Yeah I can't wait to get this rifle. I ordered my lee classic loader in .303, powder scale, and case trimming supplies today as well.

Now I just need some brass, bullets, powder, and primers. Or some good quality ammo to reload from there.

I'm glad you got it. It's not that far to drive either. I looked in my atlas and Minnesota to Brians house in SC is only a couple of inches

and you'll need more money also... don't forget that. I bought my first No.4 probably about 7 years ago now and it's been downhill ever since financially. No.4, ammo, need a No.1, more ammo, No.4 Mk2, ooh look a newer one, pre war No.1, more ammo, Oooh that's a bargain, must get that, how about a .22LR etc etc etc.....the downward spiral of enfielditis and it is never ending. Talking of which, anyone have a 2A1 with PERFECT barrel - please pm me.

Well hopefully my endfielditis won't interfere too horribly with my ability to pay for college. I found Priv Partisan 150, 174, or 180grn loaded ammo for $13.95 that I was thinking of picking up along with my reloading supplies to get me started and provide me some brass, and at least so far excluding the cost of brass I've calculated that I should be able to reload .303 for less than 40 cents per round (and that's with an 180gr sierra pro hunter bullet too (not bad given that you can buy surplus greek hxp .30-06 from the CMP for approximately 50 cents per round). If anyone has a bunch of brass/bullets lying around they'd like taken off their hands feel free to let me know....
