1946 Russian M44

Mine came with the standard 91/30 sling. There was a specific sling made for them however. It was a shortened, non-adjustable version of the 91/30 sling. A third sling, the one used on the PPS sub-machine guns was also used and I believe it is one of these that another poster created a link to.

I wanted to join the '46 M44 club, but mines a '44 Izhevsk, not matching. I have a 91/30 sling on mine that came from the supplier. I knew it wasn't correct. Mine was getting lonely and wanted to hang out with the young kids.

BTW, that is a REAL nice looking stock! I assume that you refinished it?
I was wondering if you would be interested in comparing cartouches and metal stamps on your rifle? I may pull the wood off mine to look at inspectors marks...

Could you post a closeup of your cleaning rod? I am curious on what it looks like. I have seen many "end tip" styles, and wonder what you have!
Have you pulled yours down for a comparison of inspector marks yet??

Whoops, sorry, have been busy. The tip on my cleaning rod is the bog-standard type, the same as all the 91/30s that have been flooding into the US. I did strip the rifle down for cleaning, but forgot to look for inspector's marks.

Greetings everyone, I just discovered this site tonight looking for a good C&R site and I think I found one! Anyways, I have a pristine Izhevsk 1946 M44 that I would love to find out more about. All parts are stamped with the Izzy mark and all numbered parts appear to match. The bluing is near 100% as is the wood furniture. I'll take some pics tomorrow and let you guys check it out. I picked it up from my favorite local gun shop for a price that I thought was a little high for what Mosins usually go for. I haven't seen another one yet that looks as good so I might have gotten a winner. Its also a great shooter too! Like I said though, I'll post pics and let you guys decide.

In the meantime, I decided to post additional photos of stuff "below the wood". I did enhance with some white paint, so hopefully things will look "mo betta"! As mentioned, someone saw stuff under the buttplate..



For some reason, I missed a photo.... more later on that end! Now onto the barrel and receiver...




While I had it apart... I also sneaked a peak at the upper handguard...

Hey Midmichigun. Sorry for getting back so late, but I was in Oregon on Holiday. My M44 is a refurb and no two pieces have matching #'s. The barrel has a different # underneath than the receiver. The buttplate has no # except the electropencil. Same with the bolt. Very faintly penciled.
I'll start with the stock. It has the refurb mark on it and is laminate. I haven't seen another with this stock yet. I didn't re-finish it. Well I want to play, too! Here's my 1946 M44. Excellent shape, shiny bore, all matching, no stock markings other than usual inspection stamps. Note no re-furbish marks, though. Complete, except no sling, original finish and bluing. Would be a supergun except for the import marks, which are very subtle anyway.Attachment 28493Attachment 28492Attachment 28494

looks like it has been refurbed to me. My 1943 dated has no refurb marks either but it has been reworked. I dont think many carry an original finish.
