Odd military style Parker Hale Cleaning Kit for No. 1,4 and 5 rifles pictured

I don't believe anyone would accept it for any kind of military use. Look at the way it's made. The snaps aren't solid enough and the end of the kit doesn't even close. Everything will fall out the ends. The loops inside barely hold things in. The parts aren't military as far as I'm aware, except for the jag which looks to be issue. The aluminum rods should be steel. Aluminum would be civilian. Companies tend to make things up and call them this or that to sell. The material doesn't look like any kind of duct canvas used in issue. Stencils can be made by anyone and say anything.

I havnt seen a tin of youngs 303 gun oil for years, the smell brings back memories of the cadet armoury with all the slr's in there. oh the memories.

Well Fergs, you can snort it to your heart's content over here in the UK. Available under the Parker Hale brand at about £4 a tin. Maybe your customs won't let it in if it's got that nasty word 'gun' on the label

Please note I stated "military style" and I make no claims that it is military issue. I feel it is about 1960's era. If it was offered in the era of the "Black Rifles" I would accuse Parker Hale of trying to take advantage of the closet commandos.

Could it be a kit like we used to have, that is a section cleanimg kit. We had one per section that had rods like that and brushes and was used when in an admin phase of an exercise or after a range session. 2IC carried it i think. remember that the individual cleaning roll had a pullthrought and a bit of 4x4 and some oil, by the time the kit got to us the grease was gone, I am talking SLR days here, the POS steyr's kit was much the same as the yank M16 kit.

The section cleaning kit had steel rods . They were exactly the same as the ones in the M60
cleaning kit. Got one laying around somewhere.

See pictures of my cleaning kit - it is also marked KIT CLEANING RIFLES 303 CAL No.1 4 & 5.

Mine doesn't have the metal bit to hold the brushes and jags but the stiching that has created the smaller loops is a later modification. Does have a military feel to it though. I picked it up at a Militaria Fair about 8 years ago. Never used it in anger but a useful addition to the bag I take to the firing point - in case I need a cleaning rod for a stuck case or whatever (full length rod will be in the car that could be 300 yards away). Obviously more than one of these was made.

It's just the thought of giving an alloy cleaning rod to your average infanteer that worries me............ Apologies to any Infanteers out there of course. Alloy tank hull and turret OK but anything less........., er....... no!

Do issue rod attachments have a standard thread ? My steel rod is Alfred Parker and is compatible with P-H but I bought some nylon brushes externally identical (prob for 7.62) but the inner screw thread is much smaller. They are marked ... PBC 78 ... 965-2586 with broad arrow.

Then I bought a short 3 section steel rod with a folding T handle (I presume for SA 80) with female thread, but can't find any compatible attachments for it.
