I they took took a bubbed rifle to begin with and put on a .308 win barrel, it would be a fun rifle, but to chop a nice winchester to make that...SAD.

I was watching an on-line auction yesterday and this one came up

30.06 Eddystone with a 22" barrel.
Interesting, but not sure of what the reasoning is behind it.

Once again, I reckon that is simply making use of a barrel with a ruined muzzle.

Perhaps, but again..to what end?
To cut the end off the regular length barrel and then mount the original front sight would require machining new sight cuts in the barrel. Not to mention the work required to cut and modify the stock and handguard to accept the upper band/bayo lug.
