I recently purchased a box of 175 "used" Garand clips from Nimrich Gun Parts. They were definitely old and very cruddy looking with dirt and surface rust. Oh yeah, they cost $75.00.
I wondered what to do to clean them up. I have a cement mixer. I threw about twenty pounds of wonderful New Mexico blow sand into it and added the clips to the mix. Every few hours I would stop the mixer, sort through the clips, remove the clean ones, and turn the mixer on again to tumble the remaining clips. After about ten total hours of tumbling all of the clips were rust free and clean. The parkerizing was diminished considerably, but a good (light)wipe-down of each clip with Breakfree CLP made the finish nice. The clips had many different maker markings. I loaded those clips with good ammunition and experienced no difficulty in the operation of the Garand with the many "new to me" clips inserted into the rifle. They sent 177 clips of which only two were unusable, one cracked and the other apparently stomped on.
All in all a pretty good bargain if you can clean them up. Garandiose
