Good pictures of your Mausers gentlemen. Interesting information.
I thought they would be the same except for the notch out of the receiver and a difference in graduation for the 30-06 ammo.
I was looking for one for the Norwegianicon K98kicon 30-06 Mausers for my collection. Eventually I will find one, just have to wait, my patience usually pays off.

Here are my four. HAER(Army), FLYs(Air Force), K.Art(Coast Artillery) and Politi(Police), G33/40, SN 9. The first three have the thicker front sight and U notched rear sight while the G33/40 has the original sights and was not converted to 30-'06. Still looking for a Navy marked one....they were left in 8MM Mauser as well. Regards, Rick.

Great collection of K98s. I didn't know they used the 33/40 in Norwayicon. It must one of the rarest finds in European Mausers?

Unfortunately you are correct. When the Green party took over in the early 90's all the Mausers were rounded up and welded together for displays. Only the State Railroad still has a few to dispatch crippled animals along the way along with hunters who acquired them years ago. The few that were imported to the states were not originally thought to be a collector's piece until the well ran dry in very short order as the Green Party outlawed the sale of arms from Norway. I have never touched another G33/40 but have seen pictures of a few and that was many years ago. From what I understand, all the G33/40's were issued to the Police and not to the military. It's a real shame this had to happen as the Norwegianicon examples were generally matching and in pristine condition. Regards, Rick.

This made me go look at the sights on mine last night. Sure enough the front sight has been sharpened by a previous owner. I have never seen what the profile was supposed to look like but here is what remains next to a 98 sight blade I had in the bin.

Rear sight has the “U” notch.

Does anyone have a pic of what the profile of the sight actually is?

The story I have heard follows: The Militia members were allowed to purchase their 98 Mausers for something like $5.00. Many did buy them many did not. The Militia then were turned in their bolt guns and were issued G3's(?), correct if I am wrong. All of the bolt action guns went into storage. A Green Party President ordered all of the bolt guns destroyed as Norways part of the SALT Treaty. Note: the Italians destroyed piles of 7.62mm Garands for the SALT Treaty. I think the Norwegianicon Navy may still have some and the Rail Road still has some. But they are gone and will not return. Sad, but true.

Steve, the destruction of the bolt action Mausers owned by Norway were in no way connected to the SALT treaties I and II. You can hardly connect a strategic arm to a Mauser rifle. The SALT treaties were in the 70's not the 90's. Norway's Green Party did this on their own. However you cut it, it was a sad day for collectors. It is rumored that the K98icon's Russiaicon stored were in a round about way connected to the SALT treaty as they removed the front sight protector, cleaning rod and the little screws that locked the triggerguard action screws. Boy, what a huge success that was in the eyes of our politicos!Regards, Rick.
