    An FFL dealer friend of mine took on the job of fixing some rifles for the VFW post. They all had a weld on the bottom of the barrel under the op rod catch. This caused interference with the op rod and screwed-up the timing. The welds were ground down with a Dremel tool and all was well again.

    weld or deformity

    Here is a receiver that had a slight deformity on the forward part of the receiver ring. At first I thought it was from a weld but now I am rather certain it is just a deformity !

    Looks like it was a rusty receiver that's been re-parked...I'll bet it's a low number knowing some of the stuff you show us!

    Though I know that these are forged receivers, this looks just like non-fill on a casting. That's the business where the mold is cold in an area and the metal doesn't flow into it, leaving a depressed, rough area.
