Here in N.Z, folks are trying to preserve all Carbines and parts thereof, in co-operation with law enforcement people and genuine U.S gun collectors and historians. Quality Hardware is what I am working on today. Thankyou Jim for your great "Chairmanship". Mike.

    Dear jimf4m1s,

That's why I said to make sure you are legal to own these parts. It is legal to own, buy and sell these parts as long as you don't have an M1icon carbine. Or you have a tax stamp. Up to the bidder to make sure of this. There are many places to buy these parts. And they don't ever say a word. I have. Replacement only.

Jim did contact the seller and from what I read in his response, it appears as if he really doesn't care one way or the other. A seller like this, who is not in tune with what is right or what is wrong, can be very dangerous to a buyer. I realize "buyer beware" but I am of the feeling, in an instance such as this, the seller takes on some of that responsibility as well.

That is legal. Since one part needed for conversion is missing (the slide). it is NOT a complete kit. In order for it to be illegal, it requires ALL of the conversion parts. It is NOT necessary to have a receiver, only ALL of the parts for conversion for it to be considered a machinegun. Installation on a receiver is irrelevant.

I've had my AR for 25+ years

I was told that the Feds would bust you for having ANY auto parts inside. I had to replace the bolt carrier and trigger as these were common reused parts ,especially on a really old one like mine.

I smell entrapment all over this Ebay deal and also would not trust to luck that ANY of these DHS dopes know what really IS the law. Entrapment is what they do. It takes effort to create terrorists, lead them by the hand to the crime and then bust them.

They ought to send a $3.5M drone and fly it over this guy's house until he sells it.

The M1icon carbine is a different animal. The trigger housings, sear, magazine catch and slide are interchangeable with the M2 and in fact many rebuilt M1 carbines have these parts along with an M2 stock. I believe what Jimb16 is saying is correct. It is when all the parts are present that they become illegal. It is my belief that the M1 carbine is the easiest of any to make into an automatic weapon and therefore should be the closest watched and controlled (if any should be watched!). Keeping that in mind when we see something like this eBay auction it stirs all sorts of thoughts.

Someone had posted here a while back that it was legal to own any six of these seven; the hammer, sear, 9 spring, disconnector leaver, disconnector plunger, selector switch or slide and be okay. Own them all and look out! So, with the trigger housing, throw in an M2 stock and you got yourself an M2 stamped or not.

Edit, the 9 spring isn't counted as one of the parts. All the parts together constitute an M2 Kit. Drop one part, no M2 Kit.

I put together my group on a paratrooper stocked commercial and took it to a show just as a show and tell to show a vendor friend. You hand it to an officer who puts a zip tie in the receiver so you can take it inside the show. He didn't know or look to see it was FA. Walking around the show several people noticed what it was, but only one show attendee said anything about the legality, which it is. No officer ever knew, noticed or said anything if he did know.

    What about State Laws?
I understood that in Washington State there is a law that prohibits the possession of a single part that is designed for strictly full auto fire. That would include the disconnecter.
A good friend and member of this forum passed along this info.
I'm sure the laws waiver from state to state.

Much like some of the drug laws.
I for one am not in the market.
Any Moles....... Please note this !!
In todays political scenario, why chance anything?

    Enjoy the weekend,
    Charlie-painter777

P.S. Another friend and long time CC member told me about a guy he knew who the Feds suspected of having full auto's. Full blown tactical assault on his home. His collections were thrown and piled in the yard (in the rain) and other belongings more or less trashed.
His home treated as a crime scene while the gentleman sat in jail. All caused by a confidential phone call reporting him as having illegal arms. His accuser never came forward. It made the papers..........

    P.S.S. Please no politics!!

There are Federal, State, County, and City laws. They vary from state to state. And cities within a single state.

Is it worth the risk? Best practice would be to just stay away from anything that could be a potential issue.

My reference to legality is strictly confined to FEDERAL law. Local and state laws can vary.
