As an update, the old freezer is back in operation in hopes of an infusion of fresh deer meat. Not altogether happy with the front internal freeboard trim piece repair- the plastic is quite brittle and finally I just sawed it in half lengthwise. Metal tape now covers the gap and isolates the insulation. Quite surprising how quickly it got cold again using only a 1/5 hp compressor.

I finally had to replace my refridge. The old one worked great (1964 vintage) but I couldn't get a door gasket, bummer.

No gasket for this freezer, either, but I found a "kit" that worked well enough. It has square corners rather than rounded, and is a little taller, but it seems to be OK. For something so simple, it took hours to install! The factory must have had specialized tooling to improve ease of installation.
