MaxwellSmart is right. The rifle is a 1941 Maltby serial number 1042? Strange that the SN is struck twice.

It's a pity Maltby gave up on those stamped markings for the electric pencil rubbish.

Quite a few No4(T) seems to have been converted from these early Maltby No4s.
