Thanks, guys, I am a little surprised as well with the number of views the post has had, but I guess this is a weird one. I'll keep checking back and hopefully somebody will read it and post " I had a barrel just like that, it was made by...."
The stock is probably commercial, the upper handguard and lower stock have over 1/8" excess thickness at the ferrule, and it's sure pretty wood. Note how thick the bottom edge of the handguard is. Again, I only have experience with my other Garand
, the upper HG edges came down to a nice much thinner rounded edge.

As I said before, I have pretty serious presbyopia, so Irons are a pain. I have glasses that work well for pistol and on the 200 at Highpower matches, but at the 6 I can't even see the target boards because of the way the glasses are set up. So I added the dot. If you are thinking of doing this as well, I really recommend the Ultimak rail. It mounts very low, and with the Bushnell TRS-25 microdot, I can co-witness through the dot if need be.

Neal you are right about the front sight: Trijicon front post for those late night Zombie visits.
Thanks again, guys for the help, I'll go back to lurking...Oh, and that pile of brass at the end of the firing line, that's me in the prone!
