Afternoon chaps, right had the rifle out of the stock again, no evidence of grinding welds on either the Mag cutoff area or the receiver ring, but the finish is dark and not gray/anthracite like most seem to be, so perhaps the work was very well done and expertly refinished.

The mount is really nice quality, really solid, with no play and a quality deep blue finish.....one issue though, I believe the left adjustment screw is supposed to staked in position on the mount, this moves as free as the right screw......bore scope and a tiny bit of thread lock on the left before her maiden shoot perhaps ?

    Cheers, John.

No , you may need to move it at first. Find the center of you scopes internal adjustments . You first shots will be from there . Adjust the windage from those base screws. When you're zero'd in , then you can loctite / stake the one screw and that will give you a zero you can return to if the scope has to be removed . The internal adjustments can then be used for fine tuning as conditions change .

Here is a letter from the President of Gibbs regarding how they deal with the deactivated receivers: http://www.gibbsrifle.com/files/val_message.pdf Does anyone know if it is as safe as he makes it sound!

I think the short answer is No. However, Gibbs first started marketing the "A4" conversions in the fall of 2008. So far I am unaware of any reports of an accident (e.g. burst receiver etc) with one of their rifles.

no big safety issues, that i can see, however.
Gibbs and others until they were forced to admit what they were selling, wouldnt admit that they were recovered drill rifles..
Gibbs and oldwestern scrownger = Navy Arms..
in my book, thats riding the line of being shady.. why not just say what they are, and how they were taken back into a rifle???why be secret about it..
i have seen a gamit of quality, some better some not so much, some painted, some black oxide coated.. None were actually phosphate finished as advertised...either they dont know the difference or bet the the buying public doesnt know. scope and mounting systems are Asian import made..
iv barreled many Gibbs sold receivers. and have only had to send 2 back from serious issues... had to send one back twice from different customers, i sent it back, they replaced it, and resold it again, to another customer, i sent it back. with a note...that the next note may come from someone with a law degree..lol.
i have no issue with recovered drill rifles. only how they are sold and advertised.
