Using shims on the Armalon rail is somewhat hit or miss (usually miss) affair (the Armalon comes with a couple of brass shims, but my receiver needs a diffenent thickness on each side). And the stress inducing fit does not exactly instil long-term confidence. I´m still on the waiting list for a standard LE scope mount, and wonder whether I should have the receiver milled to accept the pads?

One thing to consider as it would be best not to fit pads until you have the bracket you intend to use "for best", as variation in the machining is possible on the 2nd/3rd World repros. It's generally agreed that machining the front pad "seat" is essential; the body sides are not a controlled surface, if that is the correct term. I should add perhaps that since the rear pad mating surfaces were reportedly machined after the pad was fitted to the body, it might be wise to carefully run the end mill over that area as well before fitting a reproduction pad on which those surfaces are already machined.
