Out of curiosity, a few years ago I bought a 5-round mag for about the same price as a used GI 15-rounder. It appears to be a cut-down GI mag and a nice job at that. I have used it very, very little. Honestly, unless you are restricted by law (hunting?) I don't see much benefit in a 5-round magazine. I guess you could argue that it slips in/out of a case or scabbard with less chance of hanging up, but I think it is unwieldy to insert into the well and all you seem to do is constantly reload your mag. The 10-round mag seems to me like a good compromise if you object to how far the 15-rounder protrudes (which I don't) and the 30-round mag is another story entirely. I may buy a 10-round mag if the spirit moves me but I really have no complaints with the GI 15-rounder - it holds 10 rounds very well. JMHO, ChipS

No, I agree that the 5 rd doesn't have much application. Even here in Canadaicon where we're restricted to 5s for all except .22s and a couple other loopholes, you'll find blocked 15s or 30s being used.

I've never tried using anything less than a 15rd. I tried a couple times to load my buddy's 10rd mags from strippers without any success. The follower tipped up, and I never could get the rounds to go in. It makes me wonder how reliable a 5rd mag would be for hunting - seems like it would be pretty sensitive regarding the spring. - Bob

The 5s I used were my own that had been blocked from 15s to 5s. I had the tiny one in hand but never tried them for reliability.

As for the Jay Scott mags; Since they made 30rd mags, I would think all they would have to do is make a new or modify their stamping dies to make 5 rd mags. Not cut and reform the bottom for the floorplate. I used 5 rd mags for hunting in Fla. yrs ago with no reliabilty problems, they all worked fine!GK
