Ross rifles used by the Canadian Expeditionary Force in WW1 are marked with numerals indicating the battalion of that force. There was a 31st battalion which was from Alberta Canada
. I wouldn't have thought that LEC rifles would not have been issue at that time but anything is possible. Pure musing on my part, no facts to support this idea other than what I know about Ross markings.

Thanks RangeRover. I haven't had much luck with the first two anyway. Have discovered that at McGill University they were issued Ross Mk II's in 1912 in conjunction with their Officer Training Corps but there is very little on the events at Laval.

: I had thought about that as well but my second number is a Roman numeral so I don't think it will fit into a Battalion
I honestly didn't think this would be quite as difficult at it's turned out. I just love these old rifles. The hunt goes on!
