An interesting lathe, I gather your in possession of one or are looking for one? regarding the links above post #10, if anyone is looking for any instruction manuals, information etc or even advice then this is the site to go or click here for the home page, Lathes even give Tony a call, what he doesn't know about Lathes, Millers etc, its not worth knowing and real nice guy.

Many years ago I found the site when looking for an instruction manual for my Henry Milnes (13" swing) Lathe, Milnes Lathes

Manual and probably now the lathe are a rare item, it wasn't cheap but well worth the money, plus nowhere else on this planet had them...... as it was an industrial lathe it wasn't just a few pages either.

What would be the essential equipment for a hobbyist machinist? Besides measuring tools, the machines?

WP, If you go to the link below it gives a run down of what you should look for, size and space is always the major factor and what you intend to do ? the reason behind the Winfield was, its small and basic and thats all I needed... as my other lathe can handle the big stuff etc.

I have a Barnes #5 pedal powered lathe that I have been slowly collecting parts to restore it. It was modified to use a electric motor and it still does a great job and I still use it at times.
