Out of curiosity, in the UK
is the locking shoulder considered a pressure bearing part that is controlled like barrels and breech blocks? Or are they freely available for sale/trade to non-section 5(?) license holders?

Mmmmmmmm, that's a good question! I don't think they are, by definition alone. You never had to remove them because if you do, then the squared-off rear top corners of the Bren breec h block just jamb up into the rounded corners of the locking shoulder recess that's left. Some used to weld the head of the screw to the body and found that you couldn't get the ejector back into place so had to chisel the weld off again and make a complete mess while you did so - or milll it away which rather defeated the object! Some welded it from the bottomn and caused the same grief.
The HO rep did ask us about it and my comment was that welding it in from above or below was fruitless. They conceded that if the rules had already alowed them ONCE, then prohibiting them afterwards AND ENFORCING THE FACT was a legal minefield! After all, the main load bearing parts are already incapable of withstanding the shjock or load of the discharge
You never took them out of L1A1's so who knows

Older UK
deacts can still have them in place, later deacts had the screw welded and now they are removed with either the screw hole welded up or the screw welded in place. I believe it's another case of its on the gun it's OK, however remove and it becomes a section 5 part. Load of crap!

If locking shoulders were load bearing, as defined, then so would be the load bearing locking lug shoulders on dewat No4 rifle bodies, surely
Judges don't like it when Barristers try make the law look like an ***. However, they DO like it when the defendant can defeat the Barristers stupid or nonsensical interpretation of the law.
