eBay member since 1999 - Bailed out last Fall

~ Sold on eBay since early 1999 and maintained a seller Feedback rating over 3,000. eBay was fun and quite lucrative then. A decade ago, I was pulling in on average, a thousand bucks a week selling stuff found at yard sales and flea markets. In early 2001, the total monthly sales went up over 2K a month. At the time, eBay's "Power Seller" thing was somewhat new and exclusive with a certain monthly sales criteria required. Received an invitation from eBay to become a "Power Seller" member and within a couple of minutes time shot a message back, "not interested". Have always found just the term "Power Seller" to be repugnant. "Arrogant Seller" would be more appropriate.

Sourced out items like old Life magazines in bulk buys on the cheap and peddled them on Bay for ten dollars or more each. It was great! People seemed then to be interested more in the experience of making a purchase via the Internet. For most users ten years ago, the World Wide Web was something new and novel. Maybe that had something to do with the early success of eBay.

By 2008, I simply couldn't take any more of the autocratic, high-handed eBay arrogance and stupidity. The PayPal only payment edict really finished it off for me. Though buyers can still bid and pay for items using other means such as check or money order, eBay purposely clouds the procedure forcing buyers though PayPal.

Most eBay sellers now believe that it's PayPal only and won't accept anything else. For the most part, these are newbies who buy into the "Get Rich Quick on eBay - Make Money While You Sleep" hype scam. Then there are dopey buyers who are clueless on how to properly bid showing a little savvy. Bidding a buck at a time these fools will slug it out until the final price has no reality to any actual value for that item.

Though there is a PayPal account, I don't like using that system. It still amazes me that many companies have incorporated somebody's personal liberal politically-correct agenda into the business operation. Just the mention of an M1icon Garand ammo clip will get eBay auctions canceled and a PayPal account frozen. Enough is enough! With increased fees, PayPal only doctrine and more outrageous fascist liberal crap, I for one avoid eBay.

I wonder if they had Heath Robinson design the bayonet and scabbard for the current rifle?

As much as I bitch about eBay . . . there are still treasures at bargain prices to be found. Takes time, but searching in different modes will yield all sorts of goodies . . .

This is wrong isn't it - a pecar 4x81 being sold as an enforcer scope - they were the 4-10x45 weren't they?

Pecar Scope 4 x 81, Enfield, Enforcer, Sniper on eBay, also Original Period Items, WW II 1939-45, Militaria, Collectibles (end time 19-Apr-09 20:02:33 BST)

Not necessarily. Many UKicon Police forces ordered Enforcers without scopes for budget reasons. The receiving Police force then added scopes of their choice. The Pecar "Light 4X" was one of them. No all had the 5E sight either. So, if the seller can put some proof on the table, it's highly probable that particular Pecar did come from an Enforcer.

IRS and HMRC are beginning to take an unhealthy interest in Ebay activities.

    Hmrc

My understanding is that as a Uk resident you are allowed to earn up to £9600 for 2009/10 and £9200 for 2008/09 if you have not used the previous years tax allowance you and add both together for one year only
so this year would be £18800 ... HMRC only have the time to look at guys and gals earning over £80k on ebay and the like ... they are snowed under
looking at gypsies and the like who never pay tax.

That's not the starting price - it's what some people have bid it up to - they're desperate to pay it!
