That makes two of us. It’s a fantastic reference book. There’s such a wealth of information. I will never be able to remember half of it.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I have now had a look for Reginald Shepard's WW1 service records on-line and they don't appear to be available; most likely they were amongst the many lost in WW2 during an air-raid.

I got what I had from his family and from the pre-war Army Lists that we had access to at work. Shepherd was from the Shepherd Construction empire. Incidentally, he also invented the what is now known as the portakabin, initially for use on the company building sites. Not a lot of people know that.........

It may be that his WW1 service records are still held by the MOD because he was still in service in WW2? I have found that when looking for the WW1 service records of any Britishicon soldier, so far, if they have also served in WW2 then they haven't been available on-line. This may be because they were lost in the WW2 air raid or alternatively, perhaps, they are still held by the MOD because they hold all the WW2 records?
