Just got my first Garand from CMP(low serial #)

I wonder when more will be available? it might be awhile I guess.

They sent me an email around May 20th
CMP is suspending our Sales Volunteer Program until further notice. Any volunteers
already on the schedule will be accommodated.

CMP posted Friday, May 13, 2016, that we are not accepting orders for RM1SPECIAL,
RM1SERVICE and RM1FIELD. Any orders postmarked on or before May 16, 2016, will be
accepted. We are in a backorder status for all of the rifles listed. It may take
6 months or longer to fill those orders. Once our backorder log is filled, we will
open sales for these rifles again. We currently have M1D's and M1C's available for
purchase and ready to ship.

my favourite rifle, I would change the rear sight and trigger guard to ww2 spec, what gas plug style does it have

ni idea, What do I need to look for? What is diffrent on the guard and Rear sight?

A piecemeal refurbishment of a serviceable rifle is at best a losing prospect. If it shoots and is as CMP sent it, I'd be tempted to leave it alone. It likely has no original era parts with it and you can't make it original again. Correcting it can cost thousands, specially with a rifle that had the knurled and serrated sight knobs, a flush nut sight is among the most expensive parts to buy. The locking bar sight would also be incorrect for this rifle so why change from one incorrect sight to another...
