Not half as rough as the flogging the get to ensure they don't trip the sear. (ask Demo about butt damage when they leave the buttrap open)

    Bashing rifles

Muffet are you saying customs did what the police did to my brand new Parker Hale when I had it licensed which was to cock it and proceed to bash (Literally) the butt on the ground to see if the sear would drop as I pointed out to the policeman rather earnestly that the rifle was straight from the factory and was fresh out of the box. All that achieved was another round of bashing on the concrete floor for good measure with a "Well it seems alright we can license it now." once he was satisfied despite his best efforts the sear did not drop..........?

I also gather if customs did leave the butt trap open and wrecked the cover they would had said stiff cheese sh*te happens you get it fixed yourself at your cost hopefully it did not do to much damage to the butt.

Is that how they test the operation and safety of the mechanical safety? Surely there's a better way......... Like pit a rod of hardwood into the oil bottle hole until it reaches the stock bolt, 3" or so sticking out, sufficient to clear the open butt trap and let it drop on that. No damage done..........

Peter you are talking about brain dead people who neither know nor care about other peoples property. The person who wrote the protocols had no idea and the others just follow doing as they are told.

Not just dropping the butt, they also give the bolt and action a few thumps with a rubber mallet.
