Here is a picture of the rear sight of my (U.K. deactivated) P14 by ERA, for reference.

I take it that there is not a "W" or a "R" marked on the first sight anywhere that you can see, Cinders?

There's an "E" marked at the bottom by the screw, third picture. So, an Eddystone.

Quickest way to tell difference between US Model 1917 rear sight and Britishicon Pattern 1914 is that the British sight has a serial number.

IIRC concerning distinguishing a M'17 from a P'14 rear sight, the M'17 is physically slightly less tall than the P'14 due to the 30-06's flatter trajectory. (Only useful if you have one of each available, I know!).

Not all Patt 14 parts were interchangeable between factory and factory for reasons best known to whoever and I believe that backsights are one of the items UNLESS it was as a complete assembly. I have the P'14 EMER and details somewhere and will come back with confirmation

IIRC the M1917 sight is about 1/8" shorter than the P14.
