The SECOND smallest hole in the gas plug. is THE standard position of usage, when in British Military usage. & always has been.

Got it. Weapon performed flawlessly today on the second smallest hole position, noticeably snappier than on the smallest port. Groups have started to close up too as I fine-tune the reloads and become comfortable with the beast. My precious brass is taking a beating however; I've been used to my bolt action 303s that leave the cartridges almost untouched, but the Bren extractor definitely leaves its mark on the rims. I'm going to be interested in how many reloads I get out of her. My No.5 goes well beyond 10 before signs of stress. I dedicate brass to each gun and neck size only with a shoulder bump every 5-6 reloads. Anyone else reloading for the Bren?

I reload for my bren (semi). what I did was work out a load that made the gun function on setting 2 and its been trouble free for thousands of rounds. you can round off the chisel point on the ejector so it wont leave as much damage on the case. Also making it so it will run on setting 2 with reloads is easier in the brass and the shoulder.

my load is
38 grains of 4895 and a projectile in the 150 grain weight range. I use alot of FMJ projectiles pulled from 7.62x54r and I use a lot of tracers pulled from 7.62x45r. finding a good supply for loading is dificult

I'd think you just buy 7.62 x 54R and go one for one. That's what I'm doing...

Good stuff Mr.E. Appreciate the link to previous discussions and the ejector tip - brilliant. I might go to a lighter weight proj when my current stash of 174gr runs out.

the only reason I use the 150's is cause I cant get no 174's at a reasonable price. last time I bought the tracer projectiles they were 8c each and the FMJ's were 12c each while anything I can find in the 174 weight range was 30c each and up. As you know it quickly adds up when you count ammo per range day by thousands. Last big shoot I went to I did 750 rounds of tracer from the bren in 2 hours including mag loading time aka letting the gun cool down

Understood. Insane round count man! I shoot just 100 rounds a time - this prevents a meeting with the minister of home affairs when she checks the balances end of month.
