When Dolf Goldsmith was writing the Browning MG books, he came to Warminster where we were using up the last of the M1919 guns, ball and blank ammo. So the Armourers there had a LOT of experience on old Brownings - including some that still had the US lend-lease tank number painted on the covers. We'd kept the Brownings when the tanks were disposed of (they all had to be either paid for or disposed of by certified destruction/disposal methods. Firefly's went to Portugal) in order to equip our newer tanks in the future............ but I digress......

Anyway, neither I nor any of those other Armourers have ever heard anyone say anything bad about the 1919 Browning - or probably the M73. Great gun. Another squirt from the oil can usually fixed any fault/stoppage

I have one of his other books! what a treasure trove of information! Met him several times at Knob Creek and picked up bits to keep mine going.



Here are some pictures of my nephews on the farm, turning Radway Green MkVIII ball into noise and hot water.

ANYONE can have a BBQ in their back yard, but not everyone has a Cordite-fueled water boiler for making tea.

Just a bit picky here but you should always keep the dial plate (the direction dial) on the mount horizontal in both the longitudinal and horizontal plane. Makes for a steadier platform and better balanced gun. A true grand old lady. We used set ours up in the fire trenches at Netheravon for OHF but for the field firing range, the legs set so that the gunner was looking about 12" OVER the gun. I always used to savour the moment as though it would be the last time. Same as the Bren
