I think it would be a shame to sell the rifle since your dad bought it many years ago and I'd bet you would regret it later. I also have a nice Remington 03a3 that my uncle purchased through the DCM in the 60's. Mine appears all original with no re-build or re-inspection marks on the stock.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I'd be more likely to regret it because it's a nice old rifle, and kind of a one-of-a-kind kind of a thing. (I.e.: You can't just walk into your local gun store and buy one of these, in such condition, as the mood strikes.) As for my father having bought it: I don't even know that for sure. Before I inherited from my parents, they inherited from both my grandmother and my great aunt on my mother's side. It could well be the rifle came from one of those estates. (Can't imagine why my father would've bought two of them.) Lastly: I have things that had belonged to my father that really were part of his life, by which to honour and remember him.

    But I appreciate your concern.
