When I was young my Snr NCOs had gone on the flamethrower course as private soldiers. That would have been in the '60's. They were still around.

M132 aka "Zippo" track in Viet Nam, this one with the 11th ACR. A small cupola in the center of the hull mounted an M10-8 flame gun with a coaxial 7.62 mm caliber M73 machine gun, neither of which possessed a sterling reputation for reliability. A bit of burning rag on the end of a coat hanger backed up the troublesome igniters. Two hundred gallons of napalm was good for about 30 seconds with a range of about 200 meters. Crews were loathe to pressurize the system until just before use.
