I ordered two SG's and did'nt make the cut,was sent two FG's instead and I'm kind of glad. The finish is dark and worn and although I doubt it's the original finish it does not look like the greek black either. Receiver stampings are decent and not sandblasted away, had USGI wood but not he greatest,I've swapped that out already with some leftovers I've been sitting on. Barrels measure 2+2 and 3+3. They look darn nice for what they are. I'll be selling them as soon as my buddy at work decides if he wants one or not. As luck of the draw would have it, I got sent serial numbers that are very close to others I already have so I decided to clean these up,put on some better wood, replace the oprod springs with new Orion7 springs and sell them.
And yes,I will be selling them for cost.

As with "slamfire" I'm not the biggest Winchester fan.

The "hoopla" is because the're not as many of them and because they are marked "Winchester." There aren't really that many HRA's or IH's either but those rifles are post World War 2 and they, again, aren't Winchesters. It's about collectability not functionality and certainly not cosmetics.

I skipped the CMPicon auction because I got a chance for 850 to get a Wincheter with a 45 SA barrel and a lock bar, warn finish all WW11 parts so i jumped on it.I think except for the stock it is all pretty much original for a late WW11 rebuild

I ordered an SG, and I got what I asked for. The park looks original, the stock is not, but it most definitely was not new, pretty beat up, in fact, the barrel is SA 45. The bolt is Winnie, and a few smaller parts.
I have to agree about the finish. Definitely rough, but that's not the point.
The point is, it's a WWII Winchester. That's what I wanted, and thats what I got.
The stock cleaned up just fine. Now it looks as good as my SG SA. I hope it shoots as well as my Correct HRA.
I bought it because it is Winchester. No other reason.
