Trapdoor carbine SRS lookup please

Volume 1 has the most numbers of Krags, and probably trapdoors, though one of the others (2?) has a lot of TDs. Frank was a Krag collector, and V1 represented his whole database up to then. Quantity fell off as time passed. Some time, when my books are available, I'll try to remember to count the pages on some of the guns. V2/3/4 are printed in considerably larger type than the horrible font used in V1.

Dick, V-1 has 103 pages 25 on trapdoors, V-2 has 209 pages 57 on trapdoors, V-3 has 197 pages 34 on trapdoors, V-4 95 has 307 pages and 7 on trapdoors, V-4 99 has 461 pages 5 on trapdoors in fine print. Also V-4 99 has 146 pages of 1903 rifles in fine print 70,000 he states in the index. Seems to be the must have for 03 collectors.

Sorry for the delay all and thanks for the responses so far. I've finally uploaded photos. I don't have the rifle yet...thinking of putting it on layaway. These are all the photos I've got. Seems to look good? Model 1879 Carbine based on what I could piece together from the Poyer/Riesch 45-70 Springfield book? The last 7 on the SN is covered up by the breech block. Thanks! ~ Jeremy

Jeremy, I see some things I do not like for one the stock if original is very over sanded, The barrel has the "A" behind the sight this does not show up until 1885 and later also the cam latch is riveted and not ground smooth. Another much later feature. Look at the sling ring where the ends meet and note that you plainly see the joint this is a bad reproduction copy. It seems to be a collection of parts. Use caution and pay no more than 800.00 based on what can be seen here.

Thanks Tom, these are small details I hadn't picked up. I realized the stock had probably been refinished but the cam lock escaped me. About the A stamp on the barrel, the Poyer/Riesch book says the the additional letter was added after SN ~ 95,000 so within the date of this rifle (barrel could match receiver).

A barrel letter was added about that number given. However it will usually be "R" or rarely a "T" I stand by my 1885 date for the "A". This I base on better books than the bathroom reader you have and FIFTY years of collecting where I have had hundreds if not thousands of Springfield rifles in my hands and that letter behind the rear sight noted as well as endless small changes.
