Is a non matching Gew 98 the norm?

imported a load of Turkish issued Ross and GEW98 rifles back in the early 2000's.

Hey Brian. I'd be keen to learn more about the Ross rifles brought in from Turkey. To avoid taking this thread off-topic, if you have more info you can share, maybe start a new thread. As for the OP's question...my experience with Gew 98s is significantly smaller than many who have replied, but of the few I have had the opportunity to look at or buy, all were bolt m/m examples, though the bolt components all matched each other - supporting Brian's rifles in one pile, bolts in another - put one of each together scenario.

That was near 20 years ago if memory serves. All I can really tell you about the Ross rifles is that they were all British pattern Mk.III. I was told they were given to the Turks post WW1 as aid along with many other current and obsolete weapons.
