When Canada chopped up it's C1's, would they likely have sold off the chests as surplus or destroyed the chests?

When Canada chopped up it's C1's, would they likely have sold off the chests as surplus or destroyed the chests?

I don't believe that they built many chests - possibly this was for the tool room guns??

I note that the designation is "C.A.L. 9mm Carbine - Long Branch", which leads me to believe that this may well have (originally) had nothing to do with C1 `Sterling`SMG.

A friend has/had a very early C1 SMG "new in box" and it is in a cardboard box...

While I don't believe the term "sterling" was used by DND with regard to the SMG C1, the term 9mm carbine does tend to lend itself to the sten as opposed to the C1, which was more often referred to as SMG rather than carbine. Certainly the CAL is post war.

I have the storage/shipping crate for the Cdn Stens, and it is a box that holds twenty with the butt stocks removed.

Agreed completely. We NEVER called them Sterling, but Submachine gun C1 9mm...was the correct term or just SMG.
