Is there something so special about the bavarian forest service stamping things on a carbine, I mean anything better than Blue Sky Defacing them? Either way its no more origional than say birch stocks with a big FAT on them and I didn't see anyone praising the Italians for that. I guess I don't understand the excitement.

I would say because it is part of the carbines working history. The import stamp has nothing to do with carbine, where it was or what type of service it did. The import stamp just tells what company brought back to this country. The Bavarian markings do tell just that. A little chunk of the history of that carbine.

Bill, if I remember the post correctly, Orest had posted comments just short of using the words "bat crap". If it was just benzine, cosmo or other chems, thats ok. He alluded to biological waste. Either way, CMP
is getting them clean and getting them out to everyone. I guess I better pull out the credit card and get my fair share. I still got some room in the gun closet (especially since there are empty spots where ammo used to sit!)

I am headed to CMP
Anniston tomorrow night with the intention of getting a carbine. Anyone have any thoughts, ideas or suggestions to share would be appreciated. Thanks.

Gotta love it. I remember when the Italian
returned carbines were released lots of folks were talking about what absolute pieces of garbage they were before ever having seen one. Then folks started recieving them and what a revelation. The one I got was, in overall condition, the best combat firearm I ever recieved from the CMP
, bar none and my experience was not exceptional.
I really doubt very much that the Bavarian Forest Service necessarily took a lot better care of their carbines than the Italian Police. Game Wardens or Carabineri they were still used by the cops. I'd really like to thank Luigi, or whatever his name was for taking such nice care of the carbine I got, 2 FAT stamps and all.

After the lousey selection at North uesterday, I'll be waiting on the Bavarians too.
When they tell you to behave, they always forget to specify whether to behave well or badly!
