still need to contact those folks mentioned. Tried asking on a different forum and the genius response was "get a krag rifle"

want to get the idea done. But if I have to just find a new milsurp rifle and download it that's fine too.. Keep hearing how 150 grain loads in 8x57 are nearly identical to 150 grain loads in 30-30.. so gonna try loading some 150 interlocks up for my lil girl and see what happens

If a 30-30 bolt action is your goal get a Savage 340 or a somewhat harder to find Remington 788.
Both have 3 round single stack detachable box magazines that allow the safe use of Spitzer bullets and are insanely accurate.
FWIW, 30-30 rim dia is .506. PTG sells a Savage model 10/110 bolt head with a .520 face for the S&W 460 cartridge. Chances are it would work for 30-30 too.

You can also manage recoil by downloading appropriately.

Our problem here is brass availability and longevity. But that's off this track, it was just a project I was looking at...

i got lots of choices on what to use, but id like the 30-30 because it works as is, straight from the factory. I don't think I have ever seen any other cartridge perform as well as the Winchester super x 150 grain jhp 30-30 load. except perhaps a headshot on a deer with a 223.

I imagine that statement has started many a heated argument around the deer camp....

ive had lung shot deer with 100 grain jsp .243 win run 300 yards. and when recovered the lungs were simply best described as pudding.

ive had a lung shot deer with a .308 that ran 500 yards, that when recovered, the lungs were not found inside the animal.

ive had far to many deer shot with that 30-30 load at the same and longer distances, simply FALL DOWN and not move again. when hit through the lungs.
