Nice looking pile of K98's, it would be great if we could get a decent supply of unmolested 7.92mm K98's in the UK, they have all virtually dried up.

They look like they have been stored without any protection though, possibly won't be good news for the bores...

Indeed.
Although that article was only posted a few days ago, it seems from info from elsewhere, that this cache was found/bought some time ago, and most of this stuff has already arrived in the USA some time ago, and been processed. And while some of the M1 Carbines have not been too bad, the K98's were mostly in pretty rough shape, most it seems were shot with surplus corrosive ammo and just left and not cleaned and stored correctly. I suspect the same fate probably applied to the No.5's looking at them.

And yes, very hard to get an unmolested Kar98k in the UK now......supply has very much dried up over the past few years, I was very lucky to get my lovely one last year, had to jump on it very quickly.

Unfortunately, the K98 has suffered more at the hands of the deactivation market than even Lee Enfields, and many nice, numbers matching and bolt m/m K98's that surfaced a decade or more ago, all got butchered for the re-enactor market.
Unfortunately, that means that many of the Soviet capture K98's that were sold off in the past couple of decades are now gradually filtering out into the 'western collector' market after undergoing very clever humping reworking back into 'all matching' unmolested appearance by savvy eastern european based groups, because of the now inflated values - so you have to be very, very clued up on what you are buying, or know where to look beforehand. There is a couple being sold currently by UK dealers that proclaim the items to be something they are not, although I believe the RFD's believe them to be what they think they are based on out of date knowledge.
K98's are a veritable minefield, even if you just want a nice shooter...!!

As has already been explained, its an Indian refurb, where they have remarked it accordingly after removing the original stampings.

Just as an update, the rifle went for $500, and nope, I wasn't the one who paid it. Most of the guns on this auction, which were eligible for sale in California, sold for way more that they were worth. The guns that could only be purchased in Arizona went for half the price of the California guns.

Absolutely Jim, people need to come here to do their research first...

I've e learned a 'huge' amount on here over the years and there's always something new to learn....

However, if people are determined to be parted from their money, well, "you can lead a horse to water" as they say....

A stock Glock went for $900. Just ridiculous. The Unique Courts pistol I was looking at went for $525. A "Red 9" 9mm 1936 Broomhandle Mauser went for $2,500 which was probably pretty close to the correct price.
