Jim,
You'll probably agree, she certainly has been looked after.
'Tonight my men and I have been through hell and back again, but the look on your faces when we let you out of the hall - we'd do it all again tomorrow.' Major Chris Keeble's words to Goose Green villagers on 29th May 1982 - 2 PARA
And if was on the CMPauction it would be near double that price. As said, it is worth what someone is will to pay, or two people, or or three ....
See what very good pictures can do for an auction price.
Well, it sold for $25,025 !! I'm reminded of the old gun show admonition: "Buy the gun, not the story." Or the old gun show joke: "That's a pretty nice rifle. I may even buy it, but I'll make up my own story."
But there's the difference. This is a $1500 rifle with a made up story. With a documented history that puts it at Pearl Harbor, its a $25000 rifle.
I know one collector who has hinted at having a list of serial numbers of 1903s that were at Belleau Wood. Can't wait til he finds one, and then shares the list.
No, not t all. Perhaps my wording was off. How about...If it were a rifle with a made up story, it would be worth 1500, but its not, as it has documentation putting it at Pearl Harbor, and therefor, its worth at least 25000.
