While in Ger. in the early 70's we got c-rat from the early 50's. Add Campbell soup and good to go.

I agree, we had a man here that was actually my section commander from basic infantry that collected rations. That was in the 70s, doubt he still has them. Was always interesting to see what other countries ate...

When we were taking inflatable boat training in Coronado 'cross the bay in '74 with the USMC we were fed "C" rats that were stamped 1945...I expect they'd been gone through to determine fitness but they were fine.

The fruit was delish but I'm not sure I agree with the cake. All the rest he wrote was sure memory worthy...lots of memories there too.

Hang on to them for emergency medicinal use...if anyone ever gets the runs they will stop em right up. Marine legend says that the term "shi^^*ing bricks" originated with a diet of MREs. I can confirm it only takes a couple days to work.

I have 4 unopened brown pack MRE's in my desk drawer at work. They were found when cleaning out a storage closet about 5 years ago. A fifth was opened and the main stuff already gone. I ate the M&Ms, which were a little dry / chalky, but seemed okay. Crackers were okay, as was the peanut butter. Cheese was almost as brown as the outer bag, so it was thrown away.

About 5 years ago I ate some Canadianicon rations from 85 and 86 my dad had stored since that time. It was funny because my dad walked out and saw the chocolate bar and ate it remarking he hadn't had one of those in years. Likely because they had been out of production for years.

Out of the two containers I didn't eat the fruit cocktails or one of the bread because it had a micro puncture somewhere on the container (tasted about the worst of anything I have ever taken a bite out of). The rest of it tasted pretty normal for a military ration, and there was no adverse effects.

I can't state to the safety of those ones, just that I likely would try it.

I have a few dozen ants from all the different places I found myself, each stuffed in its own little MRE tabasco bottle.

Druing the build up to Desert Storm, while some of you guys were stuck with MRE"s; your top brass was eating in the Riyadh Inter Continental Hotel.
I was working in Riyadh at that time and the "Inter Con" was our local for the restuarant and sports facilities.

One of the funniest things we saw regularly; was on Friday mornings, our day off; we would sit by the pool, in the shade. It's well over 40°C in summer and the concrete patio get's really hot!
We'd watch new guests stroll out of there poolside rooms bare foot; along the shaded path then get onto the concrete! normally takes about two or three steps before they drop everything and make a mad dash for the pool!
