I go in 1-2 times a week and nothing new is there. While the new Jap forum is nice, nothing happening there either! Oh well, like I said------
I also have a dial up connection when in N.J., and I had no trouble with the old site. I do not see why this site would be any different, but then I havnt had to use dialup during the transition either. I do think Daves main complaint is the lack of activity on the Forums that he mainly uses, which may be due too the fact that not everyone who posts on them has made the switch. The Forums that I visit seem to be doing ok, and although change does come slow to some of us, I do appreciate the fact that we at least have a place to stay in touch and continue with the great Forums that we enjoy. I think that even the "slow" ones that Dave describes will pick up as time goes on.

    Ken,

Fifty percent of the other forum's posts were trash, spam and flame wars by unregistered members. When you have a forum that is unattended for weeks at a time, that is what you get. That doesn't happen here so you now get legitimate posts by registered members which attributes to less traffic. It's that simple.

John... Many of us live in areas where dial-up is the only service available. I contacted my cable TV company to see about getting cable for TV and internet, and was told that it would cost $11,500 to run cable to my house. I am fortunate that I have a clear view if the southern sky and was able to get satellite service. My neighbor is not so lucky. Tall trees on his neighbor's property obscures the line-of-sight from his house to the satellite, so he is stuck with dial-up.

Yes, I am in the country so my only choice is satillite, which I can not afford, so I am on dial-up. Not the sites fault, I know. But the old site was quite fast, compared. Mostly tho, it seems many of the old group has failed to come over here. Discuusssions are nill, and its not just the season. And I am not "bit:ching", but if that is the way it is taken, I will shut up. Please excuse.

It's cool Dave! I kinda know what you mean. I miss stuff like Major Culvericon's " Sea Stories" or the " How To Posts" from armorers like Gus Fisher and Roland Beaver. At least we have guys like "Mark in Rochester" posting some very interesting "Garands in Combat" pics. It would be great if some of our senior Vets would give us their views on the Garands during use in the service or share their experiences. After awhile the threads all start to sound the same. "What's Headspace?", What's my Garandicon worth?", " What's the Angle of the Dangle of my Bayonet supposed to be?"

Another thing that I finally noticed is, where the old forum messages and responses all moved "downstream" here the headers stay and the messages accululate under them so it seems like nothing new is being posted.
Although,I think it's picking up some, at first not much was posted. If it wasn't for Louis and Mark it would have been real desolate here. As my little league coach used to say, "lets hear some chatter oout there".

I assume everyone has looked at the bottom left corner of the web site display under "Display Options" when viewing any forum?

You can set up "Sort Order" of any forum, including several options of what direction to view threads etc.... have a look ...

One of my favorite things about the new site is to go to the unread posts when you log in on the upper right hand corner. You can see all the new posts from all the forums in one handy place, no need to check each one. I miss the familiarity of the old site but I love the performance here.

If you use the Firefox Web Browser, you can disable all images by going to TOOLS -> OPTIONS (or under linux EDIT -> PREFERENCES) then click on CONTENT and uncheck the box next to LOAD IMAGES AUTOMATICALLY. If you download the FLASHBLOCK program under TOOLS -> ADD-ONS then all the unwanted animations disappear as well. FWIW.

I loved the old site too but this site and it's options are wonderful. I am not computer smart, and I only work in a box so to speak. But even I am able to tailor the site to the way I like to see it.
Also, From what I read, Badger, the administrator, is a gentleman. He does not respond to the folks who are complaining about the site, even though they are receiving a free service, in a defensive or anger way. Instead, he answers and trys to instruct them or make them aware of ways to over come some of their complaints
I'm afraid I wouldn't be so nice and patient and would just tell them that if they don't like the site to go some where else. But Badger takes the time to respond and try to address the issues in a positive way, My hats off to him. Ray
