When he surrendered he noted that an American was armed with a rifle with an offset scope and wondered how you would zero such a set up. Since the German was a trained and deployed sniper the off set scope made an impression that he remembered and wrote about in his book decades later. So it appears that the M1C was in the ETO front lines in the last hours of the war.

I read this one last year. I don't recall any descriptions of American weaponry - I could be wrong. He extensively described captured Russian
rifles and ammunition which was used until Germany
took snipers more seriously - including explosive rifle rounds. I also recall the account of ditching his sniper rifle as the eastern front collapsed, for obvious reasons of what would happen if he was caught with it.
