The product that I normally use for chemical rust removal is phosphoric acid based. It does the job well but one has to follow the recommended safety precautions because it is an acid.

Simple...... It's the retainer for the return spring cup on the Mk5 or 6 (silenced) Sten. So the gun can be used without a butt. It doesn't have a pistol grip because you've already got one on the Mk5 and 6 guns. The little loop shown is used to attach the hook of the sten sling when used back to front - as you do on the silenced guns. Quite unusual. Didn't see many at all
All should buy a good little book called The Sten Machine Carbine..........

Well, well. Now that is interesting.
I have a copy of said book (purchased for £39.95 from Foyles bookshop in London on 14 September 2000 - still have the receipt) and on page 265 it states:
“The second type, known as the “plate, cover, 9mm Sten machine carbine, MK2”, part no B3/CR 152, was similar to the Mk1 pattern and was also fixed by means of a hole in abutment face and an under-hung lug. The MK2 plate was fitted with a small loop to which one could anchor the hook of the Mk3 Sten sling”.
Is it the same thing?
