That was what I learned as well. It will increase your shank by a few thou. Only do it once though...

I have a section of a post receiver that has either been chrome plated or a small metal shim was used to get the correct timing on the barrel and receiver.

I have seen photos in Tony Pucci's old newsletters where the receiver face was plated in order to salvage the receiver.

Shims
The purists at SA were opposed to shims because it meant that tghe combo was custom-fitted, a real no-no. Not only that, if the fault were with the receiver, it would always need custom-fitting when refurbished. It was, however, done on special orders from Major Hatcher.
