Inland unmarked barrel ID help

The markings on the barrel flat make it Inland, Gas Cylinder I-I is Inland made and I believe thru the carbon I can see 2 letters on the end of your gas piston, so that would be a Sub made part for Inland. The rest of the barrel shows no milling grooves. So likely polished away with the Inland name and date. Then the obvious refinish like many were in the 60's to look 'Pimpy'.

You catch what we mean by the late serial number right? Made to go fast when you wanted it to.

ETA: Is it registered as a M1 Carbine?

By registered I mean Ownership. I buy a gun my FFL runs me with the Feds, gets the OK, fills out the form that says I purchased M1 carbine serial number xxxxx.
Everybody gets their copy, I go home with gun.

We can only guess the history of that gun. Maybe a Bubba messed with it. Maybe it was used for testing in the service like with the Snooper Scopes, Then released. IDK, But if I already had it purchased and my paper work was on file, then like SGT SHULTZ on Hogans Heroes, I KNOW NOTHING !!!

I think it's a good looking Carbine. Is the stock marked in the slingwell?

Haha, ok ok, deep cleaning underway... That piston was clean before I ran a few rounds through it a couple of weeks ago! It sure got grimy fast. Here's a few more pics BEFORE I cleaned anything. The barrel is always spotless though! Shiny and rifling looks really sharp.

Your trigger housing is an M2 variant. Nothing at all wrong with that just pointing it out in case you didn't know

I bet the OP has a great little shooter. It is a very slick looking carbine. Even better that she's been put away for the last 60 years and not used much. Now you need to take it out often and exercise it haha. Did those 20 rounds you put through it go smoothly for all 20? Did you have any hang ups at all?

It is really smooth and accurate. The new op slide/spring/guide make it usable again. Also cleaning the bolt and some new springs probably helped a lot. No feed or extraction issues at all so far! This one was the black sheep, so I can relate and I like it plenty. Carbines are just really fun to shoot, esp. when your op slide isn't jumping around

I've learned more about this carbine in the last couple of days than we've been able to find out in decades, thanks you guys.

Looks like the stock is Inland, but the only other stamp is that 3 on the bottom of the grip. Maybe it was "finished" like the action was, and they got sanded off.

Well if she went 20 smoothly with no hangups, that's a great sign because if your carbine is finicky, it usually doesn't take long to show itself and would have probably showed itself somewhere within that 20 in my opinion. Yes they are a hoot to shoot haha. But I will warn you, they become addictive and you'll start buying all kinds of accessories for it before you know it haha. Charlie and the guys will blow your mind at what they could tell you about the individual parts inside your carbine, your stock anything you want to know about
